Congratulations to Michael Steele for becoming the first African-American Chairman of the Republican National Committee. I may not agree with the conservative platform of the GOP, but I very much am in agreement in breaking the color-line of the old, repressive history of the United States of America.
Thank God I lived to see this! I’m 26 years old, and for the first time I’m actually beginning to find some pride in my country of origin. I don’t quite know how to describe it. I guess you could say I just feel tremendously hopeful for the future now.
I just want to close my eyes and imagine the world for my future children, and their children’s future, 50 years from now, how beautiful America is going to be with these barriers broken down for them. I feel like I can now confidently bet on the odds of Racism in America becoming a quiet minority and slowly fading into the unspoken chamber of taboos of this country.
I want to live 100 more years, just so I can see it fully. Yes!
But back to reality…
There’s a good 200+ years of history in America where people of color had no power or control over their own destiny. It’s sad to say, but the majority of all progress came about in just the last 30 some years. Regardless, God bless the countless people who helped make this a reality in the United States of America – all throughout the long and vicious cycle of violence and hatred against people of color.
Rest in peace, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Rest in peace, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (also known as Malcolm X).
Rest in peace, W.E.B. Du Bois.
Rest in peace, Marcus Garvey.
Rest in peace, Harriet Tubman.
Rest in peace, Nat Turner.
The long list of thanks is near infinite, but for greater detail, check out Wikipedia’s list of 100 Greatest African Americans, by Molefi Kete Asante.
Thank you.
But always be mindful, and remember less than a year ago what the GOP did:
Let’s just hope appointing Michael Steele as the new GOP lead is only the beginning of the end of the racist tendencies of the so called “Grand Old Party” – the Republicans.
Peace.

For those who have recently contacted me requesting how to syndicate my podcasts, please know that I am working hard to fulfill that option for you. I started podcasting over two years ago when RSS was still a new idea and podcasting barely had made baby steps, let alone develop into the fully grown, running adult it has recently with the growing success of iTunes and digital, DRM-free online music sales. As a result, I have accrued well over 300 podcasts and for the longest time I’ve been meaning to backtrack and update all my old podcast listings to meet the current RSS standard for podcasting on popular podcatcher programs such as iTunes. Please bare with me, as I hope to have them all fully updated within the next few weeks. Once that is complete you won’t be left wondering how you’ll syndicate my feeds to your prefered podcatcher – it’ll be at the header of every page on my blog, staring at you, and just waiting for you to click it.

“Rosa sat so Martin could walk; Martin walked so Obama could run; Obama is running so our children can fly!”
[...]
Over the last 10 to 20 years, many leaders have tried unsuccessfully to motivate young people from the inner city to overcome the many challenges they face. The vast majority of these appeals have fallen on deaf ears.
Most young people have lost the reverence they once held for faith leaders, civic leaders and political leaders. If my generation ever had a leader it would have been Tupac Shakur, until now. Barack Obama has somehow inspired young African Americans and gained their confidence and respect.
While the lectures of the Al Sharptons, Jesse Jacksons and Bill Cosbys have alienated our young people at times, Mr. Obama has found a way to embrace them and be a role model. Mr. Obama is making it “cool” for our young people to be intellectual, articulate and poised.
This is truly significant for a generation of young people who often view these qualities as negative traits. He is uniquely positioned to challenge our young people to be better parents, active citizens and future leaders.
Mr. Obama appears to be our best hope to help rescue these young people from the perils of poverty, crime and low expectations. I cannot imagine a more noble cause in these days and times.
