Update: Page Navigation Fix & Forums Closing
Aug 28th
Thank you to whoever sent us a message letting us know about the page navigation trouble. The problem is now all cleared up. I also wanted to take this chance to let you all know the 1MC forums will soon be closing, and all message board traffic will be navigated to the new Web site just opened up – www.planetrap2.com. I will also be sharing 1MC podcasts with PR2, so be sure to check out the forums there for some exclusive PR2 only podcast material. This will be more of a personally kept blog – as it has been run for quite some time now, and my plans for PR2 will be to make it more of a community based Web site. Once again, thanks for letting us know about the navigational glitch. Glad we could get that fixed for you. And please be sure to check out the new message board over at PR2. New podcast coming soon! Peace.

The Obama Youth versus Nader?s Watchdogs
Aug 2nd
[...]
When I read about Obama?s plan I feel a draft. A national draft, both for military and civic purposes, in which Obama?s Youth will find themselves indoctrinated in the beliefs of neoliberal corporatism and taught to pledge their allegiance to Milton Friedman every morning. What I would like to have heard from Obama, wishful thinking, would be that he is cutting the Pentagon budget by 15% and would use that to fund a college education for every kid in America. But Obama is not about do that anymore that he is going to propose universal single-payer health care. Just as he receives huge campaign contributions from the financial organizations that make a fortune on college loans, he is up to his neck in HMO and big Pharma contributions.
This is a scary election. In previous years, candidates would at least sometimes go through the motions of trying to differentiate themselves from the opposition. In 2008 with both candidates having approved the USA Patriot Act, The Military Commissions Act and the FISA bill, both parties seem to be competing to make America a police state.

The Iran Trap, by Chris Hedges
Aug 2nd
The failure by Barack Obama to chart another course in the Middle East, to defy the Israel lobby and to denounce the Bush administration’s inexorable march toward a conflict with Iran is a failure to challenge the collective insanity that has gripped the political leadership in the United States and Israel.
Obama, in a miscalculation that will have grave consequences, has given his blessing to the widening circle of violence and abuse of the Palestinians by Israel and, most dangerously, to those in the Bush White House and Jerusalem now plotting a war against Iran. He illustrates how the lust for power is morally corrosive. And while he may win the White House, by the time he takes power he will be trapped in George Bush’s alternative reality.
We need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to stay the hand of Israel, which is building more settlements-including a new plan to put 800 housing units in occupied East Jerusalem-and imposing draconian measures to physically break the 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza. We need, most of all, to prevent a war with Iran.

Aug 2nd
Federal agents may take a traveler’s laptop computer or other electronic device to an off-site location for an unspecified period of time without any suspicion of wrongdoing, as part of border search policies the Department of Homeland Security recently disclosed.
Also, officials may share copies of the laptop’s contents with other agencies and private entities for language translation, data decryption or other reasons, according to the policies, dated July 16 and issued by two DHS agencies, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
