Saddams execution, as shot from a cellphone
Site Maintenance
Dec 31st
Expect the site to go down for the night in a few hours if not sooner. I’m going to be switching to a new host to give us more disk space and bandwidth for less of an expense. I expect to have the site back up and running ASAP for the new year, so the server change could be complete as early as tomorrow morning. I’ll update you on the next step once I’m ready. In the mean time, have a happy new year’s celebration! Peace to soca7 for joining the 1MC team, j crux for blessing the site with his great poetry, Detrimental and Wargasms for showing an interest in what we’re doing here on 1MC, and Rawpoison for hitting up the forums whenever possible. Be blessed, everyone. Peaces for now.
Arab haj pilgrims outraged at Saddam execution
Dec 31st
Number of Iraqi’s Slaughtered since 1993 : 655,000 And counting
American Personnel Slaughtered : 3000 +
Cost :$354,340,793,410
MECCA, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) – Arab pilgrims in Mecca expressed outrage on Saturday that Iraqi authorities had chosen to execute former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein on a major religious holiday, saying it was an insult to Muslims.
Sunni Arabs at the haj were shocked at Saddam’s hanging which followed his conviction for crimes against humanity against Iraqi Shi’ites.
“His execution on the day of Eid … is an insult to all Muslims,” said Jordanian pilgrim Nidal Mohammad Salah. “What happened is not good because as a head of state, he should not be executed.”
Â
The Eid al-Adha, or Feast of the Sacrifice, marks biblical patriarch Abraham’s willingness to kill his son for God. Muslim countries often pardon criminals to mark the feast, and prisoners are rarely executed at that time.
The death could harden hatred for Shi’ite Muslims in Saudi Arabia, a bastion of Sunni Islam whose Islamic orthodoxy — known as Wahhabism — regards Shi’ites as virtual heretics.
“This timing was chosen to turn our joy during Eid to sadness. I don’t say this for grief over Saddam … but we must ready ourselves for a new enemy from the East,” a user on an Islamist Web site said, referring to Shi’ites in Iran.”

A Dictator Created
Dec 30th
Then Destroyed by America
By Robert Fisk
12/30/06 “The Independent” — – Saddam to the gallows. It was an easy equation. Who could be more deserving of that last walk to the scaffold – that crack of the neck at the end of a rope – than the Beast of Baghdad, the Hitler of
the Tigris, the man who murdered untold hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis while spraying chemical weapons over his enemies? Our masters will tell us in a few hours that it is a “great day” for Iraqis and will hope that the Muslim world will forget that his death sentence was signed – by the Iraqi “government”, but on behalf of the Americans – on the very eve of the Eid al-Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice, the moment of greatest forgiveness in the Arab world.
But history will record that the Arabs and other Muslims and, indeed, many
millions in the West, will ask another question this weekend, a question that
will not be posed in other Western newspapers because it is not the narrative
laid down for us by our presidents and prime ministers
…what about the other guilty men?
Dismantling myths

“Oil, Smoke & Mirrors†offers a bleaker view of present global
circumstances than many of us would dare consider. It deals
with issues that are largely marginalised, if not ignored,
in the discourse of mainstream media and politics. However, as the film argues, it may well be that mediated
political culture itself which, by sidelining some of the most
challenging questions of historical truth in our time, poses
the gravest threat to our future.

Site Update: New Host Coming Soon
Dec 28th
I’ve recently found a great deal on another hosting company, Surpass Hosting, and will be transferring 1MC over there soon. I hope to have the transfer complete before the new year, so in the next coming days the Web site might be down for a few hours. Expect the transfer to take 24-48 hours. My apologies for any inconveniences, but with the new host will come a lot more disk space and band width, so get ready to kick it in new gear starting January.
And as always, happiness, happiness, happiness. Have a pleasant New Year’s Celebration.

Hip Hop on Religion, Leadership & Buisness
From: Davey D
powered by BREAKDOWN FM & ODEOAs we come to the close of this year we wanted to leave you with some words of wisdom on some very important topics. Recently there was a panel discussion held in Houston where they talked about the topics of Hip Hop and Religion and Hip Hop and Leadership. Among the panelists were Poet Saul Williams and Activist Troy Nkrumah of the National Hip Hop Political Convention.
Both Saul and Troy gave excellent analysis and food for thought on the intersection between Hip Hop and Religion. As you listen to the discussion , the first speaker you will hear is Saul Williams who grew up as a preacher’s son. He notes that the first people he ever saw wearing bling and driving cars with big rims were church folks. He also talks about mysogony in Hip Hop as well as the church.
Abuse could push Katrina costs to $2 billion
Dec 28th
The tally for Hurricane Katrina waste could top $2 billion next year because half of the lucrative government contracts valued at $500,000 or greater for cleanup work are being awarded without little competition.
Federal investigators have already determined the Bush administration squandered $1 billion on fraudulent disaster aid to individuals after the 2005 storm. Now they are shifting their attention to the multimillion dollar contracts to politically connected firms that critics have long said are a prime area for abuse.
In January, investigators will release the first of several audits examining more than $12 billion in Katrina contracts. The charges range from political favoritism to limited opportunities for small and minority-owned firms, which initially got only 1.5 percent of the total work.

War If It Feels Good Do It
Dec 26th
by DJs of Mass Destruction
Detailed Description
A 28 track hip hop compilation of emcee and DJ tracks – all dealing with the issues of war and peace, and US foreign policy, in particular the 2003 war on Iraq and the leader/administration that put America there. Many of the tracks utilize Dubya samples or soundbites, mostly drawn from TV News coverage recorded during 2003.The WAR album is dedicated to four people: Barbara Lee (a true American), Chuck D (a true hip hop revolutionary), Steinski (political cut and paste pioneer), and Edwin Starr (R.I.P) for his classic anti-WAR anthem with those timeless lyrics: “WAR! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!”

the Tigris, the man who murdered untold hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis while spraying chemical weapons over his enemies? Our masters will tell us in a few hours that it is a “great day” for Iraqis and will hope that the Muslim world will forget that his death sentence was signed – by the Iraqi “government”, but on behalf of the Americans – on the very eve of the Eid al-Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice, the moment of greatest forgiveness in the Arab world.
