Click-a-Click-a New Background
Nov 30th

Is it all right?
I took the Silver Zune custom theme background and desaturated the color. Also, Lockz, could you tell me how you changed the background? On my work computer your background wouldn’t show up – as you can see in the Click-a-Click-a Boombox image there’s the white header on top and then the background turns blue at the bottom. So I’m not sure if I have the background fully fixed or not, because at home my computer displays your blue background. So how did you change the background precisely? So I know how to fix it if you coded it inside the page somewhere like Myspace does (the wrong way to add CSS).
I’d prefer not to go with a blue background, because there’s already enough powerful blue colors in the main features of the theme. And I do agree with you on the white background being off as well, which is why I stopped using the theme. So how is a dark based gray or black background suite you?
Crux, what’s your opinion?

How many use the Boombox feature, or even know about it?
Well, the above GIF animation shows you how to use it if you’d like. It’s a simple AJAX coding script that hides the Boombox in the page and displays it when you click the Boombox link.

Ancient Greek artefact was an ‘astronomical computer’
An astronomical instrument built by the Ancient Greeks in the 2nd century BC has turned out to be a complex computer for calculating the relative position of the sun, the moon and the planets.
Scientists studied the internal workings of the machine by using a sophisticated medical scanner. They concluded it was at least 1,000 years ahead of its time.

North Korea Will Be Denied IPods, Wine, U.S. SaysNov. 29 (Bloomberg) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Il may soon find it difficult to sample the hippest California pinot noir, upgrade his dinnerware or download musician Jay-Z’s latest effort.
The U.S. said it wants to ban sales to North Korea of products ranging from wine to porcelain china to Apple Computer Inc.’s iPods as it implements a United Nations ban on luxury goods for that nation.

awaiting destruction…
broke three nightmares;
the pieces here:
[..cleaned them up with blank paper bags, a million blank paper bags.
..poured and resorted even smaller pieces into one extra medium-scaled box.
..planning on opening this box, whose blueprints seem complicated, taped to the outside.
..strangely enough they’ve been truncated, somehow altered
..or some falderal.]
after all, there’s they never worked
in the first place.
always bumping heads with an alcove,
one foot in a fireplace,
readers were
brutally realizing height was an enemy.
[..like gravity and long tails
in heavily traveled hallways.]
mumbling every other word..
never thes and ands,
but always better left unheard.
running since i discerned they were
keeping disappointment points
[..meant to quicken]
in the right mind of competition.
[..for god’s sake]
stricken with admitting a match
for some time…some short time,
in order to sop up victory’s spills.
(whenever you look carefully all things reach circular..
you finally feel them manifest in chills.)
noticing a tub ring amid ring twists,
fingering the barely movable symbol of my servitude.
imagining its greener underneath the metal…
pulling petals and peddling them to myself for wishes;
whistling work song rhythms,
separated by blues schisms.
she loves me not..loves me a lot..
so much she couldn’t continue
without changing the extension of exponents.
[..or cashing in on a profit.]
inventing opponents
then adding components;
some born in a socket.
unbeknownst until shockingly announced
as an outlet pouncing hotly,
electricity always has some lonely pockets.
it’s all theory in the mornings,
stretched out like jesus,
making a martyr of my alarm clock..
[..awake]
envisioning the mirror shattering, always, until i look.
just missing it pull together again, mirroring quicksilver.
rolling strictly into default stance, like disciplined mercury,
waiting patiently to become some victim’s pretty hemlock.
a reasonable poison, well seasoned by unlulling practice,
all arts and tenacity spent on its perfection put to action;
never dulling nor distracted, from its furtive roots exacted.
unaccustomed to the unburdened proof,
customs have such turning screws…
tradition left shelved in an urn
unearned to suit.
seditious, i’ve been eschewing
those unaccepting such obvious kernels of truth.
i suppose ignoring all the burning uproots,
hiding as moot and aloof, a fool in the bush
is somehow…discerning the news.
whose say who’s deserving a noose?!
tie that rag in a loop and put weights in YOUR shoes.
talking to myself and others unwittingly attempting wit,
with an unapparent audience that’s always been sitting in.
always in the middle of a sit-in, fastly chasing fasting
but fetching fitting in with being demonstrated against.
ever another hoarse whisperer
riding into the antechambers…
likening vapors as their echo tapers, adding,
amounting to airing all the ‘glaring flaws’,
unsparing of my labors and their previous cost.
eroding fragile glass bridges to polished confidence…
impossibly, no matter how agile the spins unwind,
fragments tangle with dust shards spun,
becoming razor stripes into my skin.
explaining tales held within,
with red medicine,
taken to overdose,
thus, ruining everything,
to runoff into pools and puddles.
running,
leaving stains to spread as rust across the tenement,
while growing distance slowly blankets the sun’s eminence.

Object, Param, and Embed
Nov 27th

Internet Explorer doesn’t know how to display code – imagine that. So even though you have Param tags without the Object tag to contain it, IE will still display it as if it didn’t matter, but it does. Every person who views our Web site using FireFox sees the above, because you have the Param tags without an Object tag wrapped around it. The only thing you need to post is the Embed tag. The Object and Param tags are only if you don’t want to use the Embed tag. Keep in mind when you post a YouTube video, that’s what I see. And what’s up with the blue background? We really need to create a new template. I posted the param info in comments, but I guess you didn’t read it.
“America’s moment in the Middle East is about to endâ€
Nov 27th
By Mike Whitney
11/25/06 “Information Clearing House” — -There are no “accidents†in Middle East politics. This week’s assassination of Lebanese Industry Minister, Pierre Gemayel can only be understood in the context of the ongoing struggle between the competing political forces in the region. Presently, the United States is the big loser in this regard due to its failed campaign in Iraq. The war has severely damaged the perception of US military invincibility and triggered a stunning rejection of Bush’s policies in the in the midterm elections. Now, the political-paradigm in America has shifted and a phased withdrawal of American troops could begin in a matter of months. Needless to say, this is not the outcome that the hawks in Washington or Tel Aviv had in mind.
Could the assassination of Gemayel be an attempt to forestall the impending withdrawal of American forces?
Yes.
America’s effort in Iraq has failed miserably. It has created a security vacuum that is now being filled by armed-militias and resistance movements. The Middle East hasn’t been this volatile since 1948. It has descended into a semi-permanent state of flux in which all the main players are battling for a greater share of regional power. The assassination of Gemayel is just another chapter in this regrettable power-struggle. It puts Lebanon squarely in the gun-sights of regional rivals and increases the probability of another civil war.
On one level, it appears as though Israel is the only country which benefits from a destabilized Lebanon. In fact, the assassination could be seen as an extension of the 34 Day War which killed 1300 Lebanese-nationals and destroyed much of the country’s infrastructure. From Tel Aviv’s perspective, a chaotic Lebanon weakens “Iran’s western flankâ€, Hezbollah, and strengthens Israel’s goal of reshaping the region to meet its long-term ambitions. (“Iran’s western flank†is a euphemism from an Israeli think tank) Continued…

What to watch on the web
Online video may still in its infancy, but there is already a dizzying amount to watch.
The quality is often questionable – but there are some good places to dip a toe into the online video ocean.
YouTube, the trailblazing site that has brought internet viewing to the mainstream, embraces everything from people filming themselves on hand-held camcorders to endless archive clips of music and TV.
The imagination and enthusiasm of some home-made offerings put the professionals to shame, even if the vast majority never rise above silly dances and inane rants.
Despite its sudden rise, YouTube still exists in the internet equivalent of the Wild West, where the copyright sheriff has not gained control.
And that is arguably the secret of its success – enter the name of your favorite band or program and you will be presented with a string of nostalgic clips happily ripped off from TV or video.
Dozens of other video-sharing sites also now exist – some of the biggest are Google Video, MySpace Video, Revver, iFilm and Metacafe.
Many broadcasters now put full shows online as well as on TV – either for a fee, with adverts or completely free.
In the US, Apple’s iTunes sells hits like Lost, The Office and Battlestar Galactica for $1.99 (£1.04) an episode. Amazon Unbox and AOL also offer major shows.
And networks such as ABC, Fox and NBC have all put their top shows on their own websites.

I know with the help of YouTube I’ve cut down on late night boredom, flipping through the channels to find something I might find even remotely interesting – rather, now I simply go to YouTube or Google Videos and search for things I know I’m interested in. Saves a lot of time, boredom, and it does more than entertain, it educates me, because the things I’m interested in are for information-based purposes (i.e. why hasn’t the US gotten off it’s ass yet and become fuel independent?). Now I’m starting to hit up Net Flix – they’ve got a massive collection of independent and documentary flicks that before I’d never in my life get the opportunity to see.

Criminal gangs behind surge in spam email![]()
LONDON – The recent surge in spam emails seeking to peddle sex, drugs or even unsolicited stock tips is the work of criminal gangs, according to email security company Postini. The number of “spam” messages being received by an average user has more than tripled in volume since June, the report said.
The surge in spam messages has reached record highs so much so that nine out of 10 e-mails sent across the globe are spam. Postini said that they had detected 7 billion spam messages in November as compared to 2.5 billion in June this year.

Literally, I check my mail religiously just to keep up with all the spam! Every day I’ll login and delete the junk mail and add more to the spam folder just so when real mail shows up I don’t have to weed through a pile of spam. It’s getting to the point where every half-year I’m going to have to register a new e-mail account to keep a step ahead of the spam bots. It’s always somewhere I register that sells it’s mailing list for money that gets me spam x 3.

*Fav.Track-9: I’m Building A Bodacious Bodega For The Race War
BBC Collective Interview:
So you’ve got your gangstas and your backpackers, but what about the post-futurists? Actually, that should probably be post-futurist singular, for in a hip-hop world ruled by the herd mentality, Mike Ladd stands alone. Less the black sheep of the family than a lone visionary who hasn’t so much seen the future as realised that the present is far weirder than anything Nostradamus could have imagined.
“My work chronicles a timeline leading up to the point we’ve reached now, which is post-futurism,” Mike states in his gravelly East Coast accent. “After postmodernism blurred the lines between fiction and fact, post-futurism is the point where even the blur has disappeared, and science fiction and reality are completely unified and symbiotic.
“Sci-fi is playing catch-up with a reality where things that were shocking in the 70s — like Reagan becoming governor of California — were actually the start of a process that means Arnold Schwarzenegger now controls the world’s fifth biggest economy. George W Bush refers to comic books in his speeches because they’re more real to him than actual events. How we feel about that is irrelevant because the momentum has already started.” Continued…
